Although not born in Dawley (he had been born at Pitshill, Staffordshire), David was living in Dawley at the time of his enlistment.
He had at first served with the North Staffordshire Regiment (Private 7431 and 202973) before being transferred to the Notts and Derby’s. It was whilst serving with this Battalion that he fell in action, on the same day as Charles Sankey, the 24th March 1918 and like Charles his body was never found and his name appears on the Pozieres memorial panels 52 - 54.
